Primary Mandate

Centre –State Coordination, Liaison and Investment Promotion

1. Co-ordination and liaison between the State and the Central Government;
2. Representing the State Government in different meetings and conferences at New Delhi.
3. Monitoring of investment in Maharashtra and Facilitation of diplomatic visits to the State;
4. Participation in national conferences on investment and economic development issues;
5. Pursuing forest and environment clearance-related proposals of the State;
6. Facilitation and support to MPs in providing information assistance on development issues concerning the State.

Protocol, Promotion of Culture and International Cooperation

1. Attending to reception and security related matters during the visit of VIPs and other entitled persons in Delhi and participation in diplomatic get-togethers;

2. Management of State Guest House, and transport for visitors at New Delhi;

Residuary Functions

1. Inter State Coordination: State Residency acts as an important bridge of communication with other States and Union Territories on a variety of issues related to governance.

2. Disaster Management: In times of natural or man-made calamity calling for rescue or relief operations in other States/UT or evacuation of Indian expatriates from conflict-ridden countries, it is the State Residency which assumes the coordinating role on behalf of the State Government.

3. Diaspora Events: State Residency maintains close liaison with Min. of Overseas Indians, Min. of External Affairs and Min. of Home Affairs and plays a lead role on behalf of the State Government on all issues pertaining to their welfare including active participation in Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas.

4. Miscellaneous: State Residency functions as the Cultural Centre of the State by organizing cultural events; it acts as the focal point for Maharashtrians in Delhi. It exercises functional and administrative control over Maharashtra Information Centre and supervises the functioning of all other liaison offices of State Government/PSUs in New Delhi namely – Maharashtra State Electricity Board(MSEB), State Industrial and Investment Corporation(SICOM), Maharashtra Agro Industries Development Corporation(MAIDC), Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra Krushna Godavari Development Corporation(MKGDC), Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and generates good synergy to all liaison activities. The Trade Fair of ITPO, Annual Marathi Book Fair, Mock Interview for UPSC candidates are held under the patronage of the Residency.

The Resident Commissioner is the administrative head of the Maharashtra Residency. His/her role is complemented by Investment & Protocol Commissioner.
